CT Lottery Roundup: The Latest Big Winners From Across The State

CONNECTICUT — Here are the latest winners of $10,000 or more in assorted CT Lottery games and where the lucky tickets were acquired.

The CT Lottery has changed its policy on announcing winners in order to “protect” them from potential scams. For years, the CT Lottery policy had been to show the full names of all those who cashed in tickets worth $10,000 or more as a matter of public record. It then went to winners having the option of applying for anonymity over the past couple of years. Now, the CT Lottery has eliminated all first names in the winners listings and replaced them with just first names and last initials while keeping the anonymity option available.

Man Spills Human Waste From RV, Causing Hazmat Incident: Police

PETALUMA, CA — A man was arrested Friday on suspicion of dumping human waste in a public area in Petaluma, causing a hazmat — hazardous materials —situation, the Petaluma Police Department said.

Around 8:16 a.m. Friday, residents in the 100 block of Vallejo Street reported an RV was leaking human sewage onto the ground and the surrounding area, Petaluma police Sgt. Ryan Suhrke said.

The RV was still leaking a large amount of human sewage when officers got to the scene.

“Sewage was seen leaking down the block, towards nearby storm drains,” Suhrke said.

Personnel with the Petaluma Public Works and the Petaluma Fire Department also responded and quickly contained the hazardous materials.

Officers spoke with the RV owner, whom they identified through a window of the RV as Tony Sampson, a 58-year-old Petaluma transient.

Sampson was already on Sonoma County probation and under its terms he was supposed to comply with law enforcement instructions and submit to search and seizure, Suhrke said.

Officers told Sampson multiple times he needed to exit the RV but he continued to refuse their orders. After officers negotiated with Sampson for 30 minutes, the SAFE team arrived. The team, which works with the homeless, tried negotiating with him to no avail.

Officers made entry into the RV after negotiating with Sampson for an hour. After a brief standoff inside the RV, they took him into custody.

He was later booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of dumping human waste into a public area, disobeying a court order and obstructing/delaying an officer.

Two dogs inside the RV were taken into Petaluma Animal Control’s temporary custody.

“The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the area residents who alerted the police department to the hazmat situation,” Suhrke said. “Also, the other city agencies who responded to the scene to assist.”

Click:what are sheet metal screws

Roundabouts Suggested On Darien's Cass Ave.

DARIEN, IL – A consultant says area officials should consider roundabouts or a traffic signal to improve traffic flow along Cass Avenue near Interstate 55 in Darien.

Through a public records request, Patch obtained a 168-page report from consultant CDM Smith. Completed last month, the study was commissioned by DuPage County.

The report introduces the idea of having roundabouts at Cass’ intersections with Northgate and South Frontage Roads.

Find out what's happening in Darienwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Those roundabouts could be combined into what is known as a “peanut roundabout,” acting as one system. That would simplify access and let drivers navigate freely “within the peanut,” the consultant said.

Roundabout supporters say they are good for traffic flow, safety and the environment.

Find out what's happening in Darienwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

In meetings with nearby government agencies, the consultant found some were concerned with driver expectations of roundabouts. But none of them opposed the concept.

An alternative for South Frontage and Northgate is a traffic light, the consultant said.

The study covered the area of Cass between 91st Street and Concord Place.

The consultant counted 198 traffic crashes between 2016 and 2021. (2020 was excluded because pandemic regulations skewed results, the consultant said.)

The most crashes were at the intersection of Cass, Hinswood Drive and North Frontage Road. Many involved drivers turning and failing to yield, according to the study.

Between 2016 and 2021, the area in question included four fatal crashes and one just outside the area, the report said.

One of the crashes occurred on May 31, 2020. Gina C. Pisano, 31, of Oak Lawn, who was riding a motorcycle, collided with a pickup truck, according to a police report. She died shortly afterward. The primary cause was the truck driver failed to yield the right of way, the consultant said.

For the one outside the area, 57-year-old Cicero residents Ronald Circelli and Laura Bale were found dead after their motorcycle crashed on Sept. 27, 2021, in a ditch between North Frontage Road and the Cass Avenue ramp to southbound Interstate 55. It was believed they failed to reduce speed on a curve on North Frontage.

In early 2022, the County Board approved spending up to $241,000 with CDM Smith to study the intersection and the surrounding area.
