Mountain Lion Spotted Prowling North County

OCEANSIDE, CA — There have been several mountain lion sightings in San Diego’s North County, authorities said Thursday.

Confirmed mountain lion sightings have taken place in Oceanside in the 200 and 300 block of North Coast Highway, the 1100 block of South Coast Highway, and in the area of Rancho Del Oro and state Route 76, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

The first sightings were reported at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, followed by another sighting at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Michael Provence told Patch.

“Community members are asked to not approach or otherwise disturb mountain lions that they may encounter,” the department said in a news release.

Police advised residents to report sightings to the department at 760-435-4911. Callers should be prepared to provide the location and time of the sighting. Residents should call 911 if a mountain lion is aggressive, hostile or seen near a school or park.

“The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is aware of the recent sightings and is monitoring the situation with collaboration with Oceanside PD and investigating sightings when reported,” police said.
