Tag-Team Title Match Set For Next Week’s Episode Of WWE NXT

The WWE NXT World Tag-Team Championships will be on-the-line next Tuesday night.

During this week’s post-Vengeance Day 2024 episode of WWE NXT from the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, FL., the 2024 Dusty Classic winners, The Wolf Dogs, Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin, came out to do special guest commentary for the opening match.

The opening match saw the team of Axiom and Nathan Frazer pick up a hard-earned victory over Malik Blade and Edris Enofe, only to be attacked by Breakker and Corbin after the match.

This brought out the reigning WWE NXT World Tag-Team Champions, who stared them down from the entrance aisle. Breakker and Corbin shouted from the ring that they should put their titles on-the-line against them next week.

The champs would then respond, “You’re on!” while holding their titles up high as the commentary duo of Vic Joseph and Byron Saxton acknowledged this on the broadcast.

Anthem Terminates Scott D’Amore’s Contract As TNA President, Anthony Cicione Announced As Replacement

Another bombshell of a story in the pro-wrestling industry.

Anthem Sports announced this morning that Scott D’Amore has been fired from his position as the president of TNA, and will be replaced by Anthony Cicione. This comes after TNA held its most successful weekend in years with Hard To Kill. Full statement is below.

Anthony Cicione Named President of TNA Wrestling

Anthem Sports & Entertainment Inc., a global multi-platform media company, announced today the appointment of Anthony Cicione as the President of TNA Wrestling.

The move aims to further integrate TNA Wrestling into Anthem’s Entertainment Group, of which Cicione is the President, leveraging the entire Company’s resources to add more value in areas including production, distribution, marketing, viewership, customer acquisition, digital revenue streams, ad sales and sponsorships, digital tech operations, and more.

Cicione replaces Scott D’Amore, whose contract with Anthem has been terminated. D’Amore has been a part of TNA since 2003. He held many key leadership positions and played a vital role in the growth of the company leading to its strong industry reputation today, including the successful return of the TNA Wrestling brand in 2024. Anthem thanks him for the commitment he brought to the business, the talent, and the people who work outside the ring.

In addition to these duties as President of Entertainment, Cicione will now manage the day-to-day business operations for TNA Wrestling. He brings more than 30 years of executive-level management experience to the organization. Cicione has been with Anthem for the last 16 years, managing technical operations and multiple cable and digital channels. Prior to his time with Anthem, Cicione was a producer of sports content including catapulting The Score to success by bringing WWE to the channel.

According to PW Insider, Anthem is set to significantly increase its involvement in the daily management and direction of TNA. The aim is to foster a closer relationship between TNA and Anthem, leveraging the strengths of each to benefit the other. As part of this restructuring, D’Amore has been removed from his position with immediate effect. The report states that TNA personnel and wrestlers will be briefed today regarding D’Amore’s departure.

There have been murmurs of potential changes within the company for several weeks, particularly after Anthem executives, including Cicone and Ariel Schener, Vice President of Business Development, began engaging with TNA staff and roster members to gain insights into the promotion’s operations and gather feedback. While this outreach raised eyebrows among some observers due to its departure from the norm, it seems Anthem was preparing for organizational shifts and familiarizing itself with TNA’s inner workings in the absence of D’Amore.

At present, D’Amore is the sole executive to have departed the company, although further changes may occur in the future.

MCPS Officials Violated Teachers' Free Speech On Gaza, Lawsuit Says

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Three Montgomery County teachers who were suspended for criticizing Israel’s conduct in Gaza and expressing support for Palestinians have filed a federal lawsuit against the county Board of Education and county school officials.

In the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the three teachers are asking Montgomery County Public Schools to end their suspensions and reinstate them to their jobs, issue public apologies for their treatment, and allow them and other MCPS staff to advocate on behalf of Palestinians and other marginalized people.

The teachers also are seeking payment for all back pay and lost benefits; payment for non-economic damages, including emotional harm; punitive damages; and an award of attorneys’ fees, costs and expenses of all litigation.

The three MCPS teachers — Hajur El-Haggan, Anike Robinson, and Angela Wolf — were suspended and investigated for expressing support for Palestinians during Israel’s ongoing bombardment in Gaza. The International Court of Justice ruled last month that it is “plausible” that Israel has committed acts that violate the Genocide Convention.

Through their attorneys at the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the teachers filed the lawsuit, challenging their suspension on First Amendment grounds. The lawsuit comes after CAIR filed a charge of discrimination with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in December against the Montgomery County and the county’s Board of Education on behalf of El-Haggan.

At a news conference in Baltimore on Thursday, CAIR attorney Rawda Fawaz said the three teachers have been punished for their viewpoints and the conduct of MCPS is a “textbook violation of the First Amendment.”

“The actions by the Board and by MCPS officials have been thinly veiled attempts to accomplish one mission: removing teachers who express support for the Palestinian people from the classroom,” Fawaz said. “This is a despicable bid to silence opinions they don’t agree with, control employees’ personal expression, and smear the reputations of any who dares advocate for basic rights and dignity for Palestinians.”

MCPS had not responded to a request for comment on the lawsuit when this article was published.

Robinson and Wolf were suspended for using their personal social media to criticize Israel for killing thousands of civilians in Gaza. El-Haggan was suspended for using the phrase, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” in her internal work email signature.

“MCPS officials did not suspend Plaintiffs because of how they expressed their views,” the lawsuit says. “Rather, Defendants suspended these three teachers because of their views.”

Whether online or in school, MCPS teachers have long been allowed to express their views on a range of public topics — from racial justice to the war in Ukraine — as the First Amendment requires, according to the lawsuit.

But through these suspensions, the Board of Education and MCPS “are pursuing an illegal, Israel-specific, viewpoint-suppression policy it has not adopted for any other matter of public concern,” the lawsuit says.

At the news conference, Wolf, a teacher at Takoma Park Middle School, said she has used social media to express her views on a variety of issues for many years, including using her Facebook page to spread the word about confronting white supremacists and Nazis who gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017 for the Unite the Right rally.

Wolf was not punished or suspended by MCPS for using her personal social media to speak out against white supremacists or for other social justice issues. It was not until she used her Facebook page to criticize the conduct of a foreign government — Israel’s killing of civilians in Gaza — that MCPS decided to suspend her.

A letter was sent out to the school community about Wolf’s suspension that “maligned my character … because of one opinion,” Wolf said, referring to her criticism of Israel’s destruction of Gaza.

CAIR said it is not aware of any teachers who have been suspended in Montgomery County for criticizing Palestinians or expressing support for Israel’s policies since Palestinian militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7.

“Like many people of conscience, Hajur El-Haggan, Anike Robinson, and Angela Wolf have expressed their views — to their friends, families, and communities — about Palestine, Israel, and the violence in Gaza and the West Bank,” the lawsuit says. “But unlike some of their colleagues who express support for Israel or justify violence against Palestinians, MCPS officials removed the teachers from their classrooms.”

On Oct. 13, following the start of intense bombardment of civilians in Gaza, El-Haggan started wearing shirts or sweatshirts with a variety of slogans, including “Free Gaza” and “Free Palestine.”

Like El-Haggan, other MCPS employees have expressed opinions about various political and social matters, such as Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ Pride and Ukraine.

“Teachers wore pins and clothing that expressed their views. Indeed, Ms. El-Haggan herself also had regularly worn clothing and pins which expressed her support for other social causes, such as BLM,” the lawsuit says.

The quote — “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” — that El-Haggan added to her email signature is for email that county staff use to communicate internally with each other. It was not the email she used to communicate with students or parents, and no student or parent ever saw this email signature, according to the lawsuit.

Other MCPS teachers also include slogans and quotes related to political and social causes in their email signatures. One teacher had the slogan “Black Lives Matter” in her email signature. Another shared that they were a “Rainbow Alliance Sponsor” of the LGBTQ club. Several teachers had links to articles about using pronouns in signatures, the lawsuit says.

“By singling out Ms. El-Haggan, an Arab Muslim woman, for her email signature and placing her on leave, MCPS, MCBOE, and all involved administrators have both violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and engaged in viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment,” the lawsuit says.

Elsewhere in Maryland, CAIR has filed a charge of discrimination with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of a teacher at North County High School in Anne Arundel County who sent an email opposing the county’s resources and curriculum surrounding Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.

In response to the teacher’s request for the school to use different language that more accurately describes the conflict between Palestinians and Israel, Anne Arundel Public Schools informed the teacher that she was under investigation for her conduct.

As for the Montgomery County teachers, all three remain suspended.

Snowfall Brings Magic To Southold During 3rd Annual Winterfest: Photos

SOUTHOLD, NY —Mother Nature cooperated in a big way for the 3rd Annual Winterfest in Southold Town Saturday — she blanketed the North Fork in a gentle snowfall, creating a veritable winter wonderland for the festivities.

Hosted by the Southold Economic Development Committee, Winterfest celebrates the community of Southold and promotes its many local businesses and organizations.

Crowds flocked downtown to enjoy food samples including chili and clams, popcorn and ice cream, as well as hot cider and cocoa sipped by warm fire pits, all the while gazing at a sea of fanciful ice sculptures and listening to bands play. Local businesses, community groups and civic organizations came together to create the magical experience — as children frolicked in the snow and built snowmen in a scene straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Paramount and Comcast Reportedly Considering Merging Paramount+ and Peacock Streaming Platforms

Big news regarding two streaming giants potentially joining forces.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Paramount and Comcast are exploring ways to work together in the streaming industry, potentially through a partnership or joint venture. They previously collaborated on SkyShowtime in certain European markets back in 2023.

The reason for potentially merging their platforms is to reduce costs and offer a wider selection of live sports to viewers. Paramount+ boasts channels like MTV and Nickelodeon, while Peacock, owned by NBCUniversal, features WWE content among other offerings.

As noted, Paramount has been discussing a potential merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. Meanwhile, FOX, Warner Bros. Discovery, and ESPN have revealed plans to create a sports-focused streaming platform.

What this means for streaming WWE has yet to be determined. The company has already secured a $5 billion deal with Netflix, which will see Monday Night Raw airing on the platform starting in 2025.

Athena Has Big Ambitions For 2024, Calls Tony Khan A Mastermind

Athena is looking ahead at what she wants to accomplish in 2024.

The reigning ROH Women’s Champion spoke on this topic during a recent interview with Sunday Night’s Main Event, where she hinted at a possible run as a triple crown champion between ROH and AEW. Athena later called her boss, Tony Khan, a mastermind in booking, stating that everything he does happens for a reason.

I just hope to end 2024 as the triple crown champion. That’s the greedy part in me. I don’t know if my body will hold up having to defend three titles in a night, but we’re going to try it and we’re going to go for it. That is my goal at the end of 2024. As much as I love Ring of Honor, I know that Tony [Tony Khan] and I have also talked, we know it’s not going to last forever, even though I call myself the forever ROH Champion. Just know, I don’t talk about stuff because I genuinely want it to be a surprise when it does happen. It’s coming. We have talked. Everyone thinks that Tony isn’t a mastermind, he is. He does everything for a reason. Just wait, be patient, stay on board with ROH because even if I’m not able to be on ROH, there are so many women, men, and tag teams and everyone gives their heart and soul to that cause.

Elsewhere in the interview, Athena spoke about the rumors that Mercedes Moné is coming to AEW and how excited that makes her. You can read about that here.

Click Here: all stars nrl merchandise
