Vanessa Dougnac, journaliste française basée en Inde depuis 2001, annonce, vendredi 16 février, son départ du pays après avoir été menacée d’expulsion pour des reportages jugés “malveillants et critiques” par les autorités. Selon les observateurs, la liberté de la presse dans la plus grande démocratie du monde est de plus en plus menacée, les journalistes abordant des sujets sensibles étant souvent tancés par le gouvernement.

Vanessa Dougnac collabore à plusieurs publications francophones, dont l’hebdomadaire Le Point. Le ministère de l’Intérieur lui avait envoyé le mois dernier une notification affirmant que son travail était “contraire” aux intérêts nationaux et qu’il avait provisoirement décidé d’annuler son permis de séjour permanent.

“Je n’ai pas choisi de partir”, a commenté Vanessa Dougnac. Mais “je suis dans l’incapacité de travailler et j’ai été injustement accusée de porter atteinte aux intérêts de l’État. Il est devenu évident que je ne peux pas continuer à vivre en Inde”, a expliqué l’intéressée dans un communiqué. Vanessa Dougnac, qui a un conjoint indien, a réalisé des reportages sur plusieurs sujets brûlants, notamment l’insurrection maoïste naxalite dans certaines régions rurales de l’Inde.

Le ministère indien de l’Intérieur l’accuse d’activités journalistiques “malveillantes et critiques” ayant créé une “perception biaisée de l’Inde”. La journaliste française a contesté “toutes les allégations et imputations” formulées à son encontre. “L’Inde est ma maison, un pays que j’aime et respecte profondément, et je ne me suis jamais livrée à aucun acte préjudiciable aux intérêts indiens”, avait-elle déclaré en réponse à la notification.

WESTPORT, CT — Launched earlier this month, the GoFundMe campaign to benefit the Westport Police Department’s K-9 Unit is nearing its goal, in an effort to provide new equipment and training for the four-dog program.

As of Thursday, the initiative had raised nearly $40,000 toward a goal of $58,000, for which Westport Police Corporal Jim Loomer is thankful.

“We want to be able to continue to run this program the way it should be run,” Loomer told Patch, adding that Westport’s K-9 Unit assists police departments from Greenwich to New Haven.

The Westport unit has four dogs, Atlas, a German Shepherd, handled by Corporal David Scinto; Brutte, a Belgian Malinois, and Ambo, a yellow Labrador, handled by Loomer; and Onyx, a Dutch Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, handled by Corporal Kevin Smith.

Atlas, who is retiring at the end of the year, Brutte and Onyx are patrol dogs, while Ambo specializes in explosives detection.

The dogs are used by Westport and other departments for tracking of suspects, drug and explosive detection, searches for missing persons, and even community events.

“Everybody loves the dogs,” Loomer said. “They offer a great connection with the public.”

Scinto told Patch that working with a K-9 officer is special. Atlas and Scinto received recognition from the state in 2021 for their work in capturing an armed robbery suspect in Bridgeport.

“The bond you create over time with the dog is great,” he said. “They’re the best friend you get to work with.”

Atlas, who is 9 and a half, began working for the department at 17 months old, Scinto said, so his retirement will be a little foreign to him. Upon retirement, Westport’s police dogs go to live with their handlers.

“It’ll be a little different for him at first, but he’ll get used to the couch,” Scinto said with a chuckle.

The dogs assist other departments every week, depending on which K-9 is on duty at the time, according to Loomer, who said some departments in Fairfield and New Haven Counties do not have K-9 units.

“It’s a very nice luxury to have such great tools, these dogs, at our disposal,” Loomer said.

The Berlioz reissue was especially dramatic, with every small percussion piece and textured string instrument beautifully separated and layered on a vast stage, resonant and resplendent. It’s possible Rampage got a boost from a bigger-than-usual Smackdown viewership that concluded on Fox right before Rampage began on TNT.

In the key 18-49 demo, it drew a 0.17 rating, up from 0.11 last week. The current ten-week rolling average is 0.15.

En Pologne, en Lituanie, en Allemagne, en France…Des centaines de personnes se sont rassemblées, vendredi 16 février, à travers l’Europe pour rendre hommage à l’opposant numéro un au Kremlin, Alexeï Navalny, dont Moscou a annoncé le décès. Alexeï Navalny, qui avait rallié de nombreux partisans avec ses critiques contre la corruption de la Russie de Vladimir Poutine, est mort, vendredi 16 février, à 47 ans dans la colonie pénitentiaire de l’Arctique où il purgeait une peine de 19 ans de prison.

A Paris, environ 200 personnes se sont retrouvées dans l’après-midi, devant le monument Pierre-Ier de Serbie, dans le XVIe arrondissement, après avoir été éloignées de l’ambassade russe par les forces de l’ordre. Les manifestants ont accusé le régime russe d’avoir tué l’opposant. Un petit portrait a été déposé en sa mémoire, avec quelques fleurs. Certains manifestants étaient en pleurs. “Je n’arrive pas à croire ce qui vient d’arriver”, confie cette jeune femme originaire de Moscou. Les manifestants ont crié “Poutine assassin” et “La Russie sera libre”.

“Je pensais qu’il vivrait toujours”

A Varsovie, une centaine de personnes ont manifesté devant l’ambassade de Russie en Pologne, en majorité des jeunes dont beaucoup semblaient bouleversés. Des bougies ont été allumées et des fleurs déposées contre le grillage entourant le bâtiment sévèrement gardé de l’ambassade. Les manifestants ont lancé des slogans, dont “Poutine, assassin”, et “Ne jamais oublier, ne jamais pardonner”.

Plusieurs centaines de personnes brandissant des portraits du défunt se sont également rassemblées en Lituanie, pays très critique envers la Russie. La manifestation s’est tenue au mémorial des victimes de l’occupation soviétique à Vilnius. Une Russe qui a refusé de décliner son identité et vit en Lituanie depuis l’an dernier a affirmé que Navalny était “une personne qui disait ce (qu’elle) pense et (lui) donnait de l’espoir”. “Même depuis sa prison, il parvenait à trouver de la force et à en donner à ceux qui résistent”, a-t-elle dit. “Je pensais qu’il vivrait toujours”.

Ils étaient également plusieurs centaines à Berlin devant l’ambassade de Russie. “Poutine meurtrier ! Poutine à La Haye !” (ville des tribunaux internationaux) scandait la foule massée sur la célèbre avenue Unter den Linden, dans le centre de la capitale allemande. Dans une foule en majorité russophone à laquelle se mêlaient des Allemands, de nombreuses pancartes portaient des photos ou des citations de l’opposant ou des insultes à l’encontre de Vladimir Poutine.

Aux Pays-Bas, plusieurs centaines de personnes ont manifesté place du Dam devant le palais royal à Amsterdam ainsi que devant l’ambassade russe à La Haye, sur les grilles de laquelle un portrait du défunt a été accroché. Les manifestants d’Amsterdam portaient des pancartes “Poutine est un tueur” et “N’abandonnez pas”, selon l’agence de presse ANP.

A Londres, plusieurs dizaines de personnes se sont rassemblées en face de l’ambassade de Russie, derrière des barrières, portant des pancartes en anglais ou en russe disant “Poutine assassin”, “Assassins”, “Navalny notre héros”, “Ma Russie est en prison”, “N’abandonnez pas”, “Nous sommes Navalny” ou encore “Poutine brûle en enfer”.
