Big Bill and Brian Cage are the next contenders for the AEW Tag Team titles.

Bill and Cage won a battle royal on Friday’s Rampage, last eliminating The Butcher together to win the battle royal. The winner of the battle royal will get a shot at the AEW Tag Team titles, which are currently held by FTR.

The two first teamed up as part of a AEW Blind Eliminator Tag Team title tournament that took place earlier this month. On the July 5 edition of Dynamite, they teamed for the first time, defeating Matt Sydal and Trent Berretta. They ended up losing to Adam Cole and MJF on the July 15 edition of Dynamite. Cole and MJF eventually went on to win the tournament.

Since the end of The Firm stable, Big Bill and Lee Moriarty have continued their tag team. The duo won a squash match on last week’s ROH on HonorClub. Cage is one third of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions with The Gates of Agony.

The next AEW Tag Team title match will take place on Saturday’s Collision, with Cole & MJF taking on FTR.

8/26 NXT ON USA PRIMER: Kross and Scarlett kick off show, Ciampa returns, Swerve vs. Escobar, Imperium vs. Breezango, Shirai & Ripley vs. Kai & Gonalez

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

The fallout from NXT Takeover XXX takes place tonight as new NXT Champion Karrion Kross will kick off the show. But that’s not all as NXT Women’s Champion my favorite Io Shirai will team with Rhea Ripley to face Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez in tag team action. Plus, NXT Tag Team and Cruiserweight Championships will be on the line. Also, Tommaso Ciampa returns tonight. It’s sure to be an action-pack episode of NXT which takes place tonight from Full Sail University on the USA Network. Let’s take a look at what’s currently advertised for tonight’s show

  • NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Scarlett to kick off WWE NXT
  • NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai teams with Rhea Ripley to face Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez
  • Tommaso Ciampa set to return to NXT
  • What’s next for new NXT North American Champion Damian Priest?
  • Can lightning strike twice for “Swerve” against Escobar
  • NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium vs. Breezango

ADVERTISED MATCHES & SEGMENTS

NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Scarlett to kick off WWE NXT

Doomsday is here for NXT as Karrion Kross defeated Keith Lee to become the new NXT Champion at NXT TakeOver: XXX despite suffering a shoulder injury during the match. The duo of Kross and Scarlet will kick off tonight’s episode of NXT. The question is what does the new champion have in store for NXT and how will Kross’ injury come into play?

(Amin’s Analysis: The presentation of Kross has been terrific since his debut and it would be a bummer if he had to miss time or even relinquish the NXT Title due to his shoulder injury. This will be interesting to watch as could a list of wrestlers which include Adam Cole and Finn Balor could come out to challenge Kross after picking up wins at Takeover XXX.)

NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai teams with Rhea Ripley to face Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez

My favourite Io Shirai successfully defended her NXT Women’s Title after defeating Dakota Kai in a terrific match at TakeOver: XXX. Shirai’s celebration was cut short as she was attacked by Raquel Gonzalez. However, Rhea Ripley joined the fray to even up the odd teasing a potential showdown with Gonzalez. However, things didn’t end there as Ripley was shown watching my favourite Io Shirai celebrate with her NXT Women’s Title. The question is can Shirai co-exist with Ripley against Kai & Gonzalez in their tag team match.

https://twitter.com/AminAjani/status/1297376788239319040

(Amin’s Analysis: This should be fun as you can always expect a good match to come out of the NXT Women’s Division. Looking forward to seeing how this match plays out as they teased Gonzalez could be next to challenge for the NXT Women’s Title after her post-match attack on Shirai at TakeOver: XXX. They also heavily teased a match between Ripley and Gonzalez after their stare down. The other takeaway was Ripley eying Shirai when she was celebrating with her NXT Women’s Title. I’m biased as Io Shirai is my favourite and it’s been awesome to see her being presented the brand’s top champion as she continues to show in all her matches and promos why this is her NXT.)

Tommaso Ciampa set to return to NXT

For the first time in nearly three months Tommaso Ciampa returns to NXT tonight. Ciampa hasn’t been seen since his loss to Kross at TakeOver: In Your House. The question is what will Ciampa’s next move be and will he want to face Kross again who’s now NXT Champion?

(Amin’s Analysis: Ciampa has been missed and his return will add more star power to the show as he could easily step into the NXT Championship picture and could continue his program with Kross.)

What’s next for new NXT North American Champion Damian Priest?

Damian Priest took one step forward to making his name live forever after capturing the NXT North American Title at Takeover XXX. The question is what’s next for Priest and who will step up to challenge him for his newly won North American Title.

(Amin’s Analysis: Nice moment for Priest at TakeOver: XXX to capture his first championship in NXT as he’s a talented wrestler and always works hard in his matches. This will be interesting to watch as Priest will likely have challengers lined up mostly coming from the wrestlers who competed in the Ladder Match.)

Can lightning strike twice for “Swerve” against Escobar

Isiah “Swerve” Scott is the only person in NXT to defeat Santos Escobar in single’s competition. Scott will look to make it two in a row when he challenges Escobar for the NXT Cruiserweight Title. Since the formation of Legado del Fantasma, Escobar has been on a roll overcoming all challenges for the Cruiserweight Title. The question now is can Scott beat Escobar again and become the new Cruiserweight Champion?

(Amin’s Analysis: Escobar has done a terrific job not only as champion but bringing importance to the Cruiserweight Division. The story of Scott being the only one to pick up a victory over the current champion is a good one to tell but the question is how do you keep this going? My guess is by way of Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza causing a no finish to what should be a great match as both Escobar and Scott are talented wrestlers. If my guess is right, this should lead to a rematch in a possible stipulation match where Scott wins the Cruiserweight Title.)

NXT Tag Team Champions Imperium vs. Breezango

Tyler Breeze & Fandango will get another chance to challenge Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel for the NXT Tag Team Titles after defeating Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan and Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza in a Number One’s Contender’s Match on the TakeOver: XXX pre-show. Breeze & Fandango put up a great match but came up short against Imperium to win the NXT Tag Team Titles. After earning another shot at the titles can Breezango finally end Imperium’s run?

(Amin’s Analysis: Let me say, I enjoy watching Aichner & Barthel wrestler Aas they make a great team but something is just missing and Imperium isn’t the same without Walter. This seems to be the right time to make the switch, put the tag team titles on Breeze & Fandango and see if they help elevate the NXT Tag Team Division like Undisputed Era did. Overall, this should be a great match featuring four talented wrestlers.)

NXT Takeover XXX Results

Karrion Kross defeated Keith Lee to become the new NXT Champion. My favourite Io Shirai defeated Dakota Kai to retain the NXT Women’s Championship. Adam Cole defeated Pat McAfee in a very good match. Damian Priest won the NXT North American Championship Ladder Match. Finn Balor defeated Timothy Thatcher in a solid technical wrestling match.

Overall Thoughts

Nice to see NXT stack up tonight’s show as they look to build momentum coming off a great Takeover special. The wrestling should be solid and I would expect to see some big angles and teases of championship programs.

Britt Baker Reveals The Match Stipulation She Wants To Have In Her Career

Britt Baker made an appearance on Not Just Football With Cam Heyward to discuss a wide range of topics.

During the interview, the former AEW Women’s Champion was asked about what match stipulation she would like to do. Baker noted a ladder match despite having a fear of heights.

“I will say, I’ve never had a straight up ladder match,” Baker said. “I’ve been thrown onto ladders, but I’ve never had to climb the ladder and get the briefcase or the chip or the ring or whatever you’re trying to get. That is terrifying to me, because I’m afraid of heights, but I feel like … I have to have a ladder match before I retire, right?”

“If someone throws me off something high or pushes me, that’s fine,” Baker said. “But like, me actually having to be the one to do the work, that really is terrifying to me. And you’re thinking about everything, ‘don’t fall, don’t lean back, don’t do this.’ It’s a lot to think about.”

After LI Shark Bites, Experts Weigh In — And Offer Safety Tips

LONG ISLAND, NY — With a number of shark bites reported in recent days, including one incident in Quogue, and others on Fire Island and at Robert Moses State Park, experts spoke with Patch Thursday about what may have led to the uptick.

Paige Finney, a communications specialist with Ocearch, said the non-profit organization’s science team was “skeptical” that any of the bites and encounters in the Long Island area have been from young white sharks.

Sharks, Chris Fischer, founder of Ocearch, has long maintained, are “great balance keepers.” The fact that they have been proliferating in recent years, after the great white shark nursery was found off the coast of Montauk, indicates that water quality is improving.

Find out what's happening in Southamptonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

But Finney said the most recent bites were likely not due to the white shark nursery in Montauk.

“It was likely young sand tigers or requiem sharks, so unrelated to the white shark nursery but perhaps to the inshore nurseries for those other species,” Finney said.

Find out what's happening in Southamptonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

She added: “The mid-Atlantic at this time of year hosts juveniles of a number of shark species. The most likely sharks you would encounter in the surf zone in that area would be small sandbars, small sand tigers and smooth hounds.”

Finney also shared tips from Ocearch on how to stay safe in the water this season:

Assess Water Conditions

Pay attention to lifeguard warnings: Check the lifeguard stands at the beach before you go into the water, to see if there are any precautions posted for surf and current conditions as well as any dangerous marine life in the area.

Rip currents: Before you go into the water, make sure you assess the area you are entering. Your trip to the beach is 132 times more likely to end in drowning than it is with a shark bite, Ocearch said. The biggest beach risks are undertows, strong currents, and rip currents. A rip current is a powerful channel of water that flows away from the shore. If you find yourself in a rip current, remain calm and swim parallel to the shore. Then follow breaking waves back to shore at an angle. Do not swim against the current. If you are unsure about water conditions you can reach out to your local lifeguard or click here.

Don’t swim in the food chain: Every time you step into the ocean you are stepping into the wild, but there are easy ways to minimize your risk of an interaction with a shark or other predatory fish, Ocearch said. Avoid swimming in areas with a lot of activity such as birds diving, fish jumping or seals swimming. You don’t want to swim out in the middle of the food chain and be mistaken for a fish, dolphin, seal or other prey. Instead, move to a quieter section of the beach.

Be cautious of marine life: While most marine life is harmless, it’s important to be cautious, Ocearch said. Avoid touching or approaching unfamiliar sea creatures, as some may be poisonous or aggressive. If stung by a jellyfish or other marine creature, seek medical attention.

Safety in numbers: When possible, swim with a buddy. Having someone with you increases safety as they can provide help or call for assistance if needed. Do not swim far out where sharks may be patrolling.

Swim in the ocean during the day: Don’t swim between dusk and dawn, when sharks have less visual information to tell them you are not what they are looking for, Ocearch said.

Avoid shiny jewelry and bright-colored bathing suits: Marine animals can be attracted to shiny objects or mistake bright colors for fish scales and may mistake it as prey, Ocearch said. If you wear bright colors or jewelry, stay aware of your surroundings.

Avoid swimming with an open wound or cut: Sharks and other predatory fish can be attracted to the scent of blood, so it is best to avoid swimming if you are bleeding, Ocearch added. Open wounds can also get infected by bacteria in the water so it is important to cover the wound with protective measures such as a waterproof bandage.

Click Here: cheap penrith panthers jersey

Protect your skin: Apply sunscreen to protect your skin against harmful UV rays and reapply often throughout the day.

Stay hydrated: If you’re spending extended periods of time in the sun or saltwater, make sure you drink plenty of water. Dehydration can lead to fatigue and increase the risk of accidents.

Lightning: Lightning strikes at the beach are a far greater risk than shark bites, Ocearch said. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard anywhere in the area, get off the beach until the storm passes. Don’t wait until the storm is upon you.

“Most of all, have fun,” Ocearch said. “The ocean is an amazing, rejuvenating place to enjoy the holidays with friends and family. Remember that it is a wild place, not a swimming pool. We want our oceans to be healthy and full of abundant wildlife, so celebrate the beauty and fun of our oceans but remember to be safe.”

Andrew Lang On The Next 100 Years Of The Cape Cod Baseball League

CAPE COD, MA — The Cape Cod Baseball League is in the midst of its centennial season, but its influence in the baseball history books is already written with ink.

Cape Cod’s college summer league has long been the premiere destination for top talent, and the organizations and people who’ve helped guide it there are set to get their flowers in 2023.

But new President Andrew Lang understands that, much like the professional league he hopes to guide these players into, there’s a level of evolution that’s necessary as the league starts its next 100 years.

Find out what's happening in Barnstable-Hyanniswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Technology, analytics and marketing strategy are just a few of the items at the front of Lang’s mind even as he continuously digs out from an inbox filled with bizarre branding opportunities and questions he doesn’t yet know whether to answer or ignore.

And then there are the players, who have evolved from when Lang first got involved with the league in Wareham in 2013 but still have the same status and expectations of years past.

Find out what's happening in Barnstable-Hyanniswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Players like Aaron Judge, Evan Longoria, Jason Varitek and many, many others have stepped between the lines across Cape Cod, and the players doing so this year likely expect to follow in the footsteps of those three in stepping between the lines of major league ballparks.

“Every kid who plays in the Cape League, in theory, should end up being drafted,” Land said.

“They should, because that’s the type of league it is. But when they come in, they’re playing for that draft position. So they’re really playing for signing bonus money, and we’re just trying to help them in any way that we can,” Lang said.

Lang finds himself in a unique position in 2023.

On the one hand, he’s now one of the most important figures in the college baseball to Major League Baseball pipeline, and he’s thoughtful about how he can improve that aspect.

On the other hand, this milestone for the league is astonishing and worthy of celebration and accolades in and of itself.

The Cape Cod Baseball League started with four teams in 1923. For comparison, the Northwoods League and New England Collegiate Baseball League, two other top leagues in the nation, were founded in the 1990s.

So how is Lang planning to celebrate the last 100 years while planning for the next 100? Patch asked him just that during a recent interview.

Patch: What’s the leadup to your first season as president been like as the league heads into its 100th year?

Lang: It was interesting. Yeah, being involved for a little while, you kind of have an idea, but the only way I can describe it is until you’re doing it, you really have no idea of everything that’s going on.

With Wareham that was nice. It’s just one team, I started off just on the GM side. So you know, taking care of the roster. Pretty much everything baseball-related or that touched the players. Then moving to be the president of the Gatemen, then you’re starting to look at everything else, you know, concessions, merchandise, running game day events, just everything.

But now with the league. There are so many different things. There’s merchandise, each team broadcasts their own games, and then there are different potential deals you have with getting your games on different platforms.

I’m starting to get into a little bit of a flow. It’s the 100th year anniversary, and in some areas, the league is up to date. And other areas, you know, the league maybe needs to do need to do a little bit of work to catch the league up to either where technology is or where the industry of baseball is.

Patch: The league recently partnered with BaseballCloud. Is utilizing analytics a priority for you as you take the helm of things?

Lang: Yeah, it is. It’s the next step in the maturation process of this league.

It hasn’t been ignored, because we’ve had track man since 2016. But, you know, the way the league has operated under that is we’ve been very careful on who we give that information to.

It’s proprietary, right, surely, you never want to do anything that would make TrackMan not make money, or anything like that, or do something that they would be upset about, but on the other side, I think we took that overboard with what we’re doing since 2015.

Major league teams don’t care if you post on Twitter, that a kid hit a home run and the exit velo was 105 and, not that I care about launch angle, but the launch angle was, you know, 18 degrees.

But a lot of people care about it. Especially if you want to reach, I don’t know, younger fans, or you want to reach more fans, or you just want to bring in a little bit more interest in what’s going on.

I mean, it’s all out there, and we haven’t used it the way that I feel like we should, and we’re going to start.

When you’re a player, if you’re collecting all this information, and it’s never getting to you, or if you’re collecting all the information, and then a little bit is getting to you, or if you’re collecting it and it’s getting to you, but there’s no condensing of the information, no actual analytical work to try to make you understand what’s going on, then why are you collecting the information?

That’s the one leg the league never could figure out.

The individual franchises were trying to do it on their own. Taking all the information, condensing it, and using it to help kids, to improve our broadcasts, to improve pretty much everything. And that’s where BaseballCloud, hopefully, will come in.

Patch: The Cape League has an aura that feels very much like a stepping stone for college players to stamp themselves as future pros, yet it does have an old-school baseball vibe at the same time. Is making the league feel a bit more modern and promoting it to a bigger audience a goal with some of these decisions?

Lang: Yeah, that’s the key. If we want to continue doing what we do we need to take that next step. The players aren’t the same players that were here 20 years ago, they’re not even the same players that were here when I first started.

It’s a different age of player, obviously it’s a different type of consumption from the fans. Some fans will be strictly Twitter, some fans will be strictly Instagram, but some will be both. Maybe a fan will watch a game, maybe they’ll just watch the clips and the highlights. But if we don’t provide any of that, then we’ve lost. We don’t have that fan.

It’s just developing and building the brand. I don’t want the Cape League to be the best kept secret.

Patch: From a player’s perspective, what do you think is the purpose of the league? Is it a developmental opportunity? Is it a chance to raise their status and get in front of scouts and front office guys?

I see the league as a mixture of both developmental and showcase. We’re not going totally showcase style because we don’t start people with a one-strike count. We don’t do all the showcase rules.

But you know, if you’re a shortstop at your school, and you’re just not going to play there in pro ball and you need to make a position change to get to the highest level you can come up to the Cape and get that done.

If you’re a right-handed hitter and you think you could switch hit then I could name you two coaches that are in the league just off the top of my head — there’s more — that I would probably steer you to to get that accomplished.

You know, in Wareham when Jerry was our manager, if you were a catcher, and you needed to work on anything or improve, it made sense to come to Wareham to work with Jerry all summer.

But while you’re doing that, you’re also being exposed to every single major league club, you’re also being exposed to pretty much every big player agency because they send their own scouts down here. So with that, it’s that perfect mix of development because everybody comes up to the Cape.
