Hatboro-Horsham Choir To Perform With Foreigner

HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —When you join a choir, you never think you’re going to perform on stage with a classic rock band.

But that’s where the Hatboro-Horsham High School Choir will be on Sunday night, singing a signature hit song on the stage at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, N.J., with the classic rock band Foreigner, who is sharing the bill with opening act John Waite and Styx.

The legendary band is on its farewell tour, wrapping up a career of nearly 50 years in which they have been named for induction this year into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Foreigner has cranked out heavy hits that have rocked arenas for decades: “Double Vision,” “Urgent,” “Feels Like the First Time,” “Hot Blooded,” and “Cold as Ice,” among others.

But the ballad “I Want To Know What Love Is,” might be their biggest hit. And it features the need for a choir.

That’s where Hatboro-Horsham comes in.

Choir Director Charlie Masters told Patch this week that the choir was among the semi-finalists for a B101 Christmas contest in which the Neshaminy High School’s choir took first place.

The choir earned a grand prize of $5,000 and performed their winning song at the Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Ghosts of Christmas Eve Concert last December.

Masters, who has been with the Hatboro-Horsham School District for the past two years, said the experience was great for the choir. “It was cool to hear the choir on the radio.”

So when the radio station launched a “Christmas In July” contest, the choir was “excited to go through the process once again,” said Masters, 44, who has been a teacher for 22 years.

This time, the outcome was a different tune. They won.

“I was just over the moon,” said Masters when he received a phone call from the radio station. “I was ecstatic. They’re going to be on stage before thousands of people.”

The choir features 22 women and is comprised of sopranos and altos with a few tenors thrown into the mix, Masters said.

“This is really cool and I’m really excited for the students. There’s a lot of good excitement in the community too,” he said.

“Foreigner is very generous to give us this opportunity,” Masters stated. “These kids being on stage will have a memory that will last forever.”00000000000000
