Tony Schiavone Confirms He Will Not Be At NJPW X AEW Wrestle Dynasty 2025

Don’t expect to hear the voice of Tony Schiavone at the next All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view event.

During the latest installment of his What Happened When podcast, the legendary pro wrestling commentator confirmed he will not be attending the upcoming NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty 2025 pay-per-view at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan on January 5.

“Of course, we’re sending some people to Japan,” Schiavone said. “I’m not going to go there, I’m not going to Japan.”

Schiavone continued, “Although I wouldn’t mind because I went to Japan back in 1991 for the big show in the [Tokyo] Dome, and that was a great trip. I had a great time in Japan when I went there, I loved it. It’s not my decision. I’m either booked, or I’m not, and I’m not booked to go there. It’s a little bit easier for AEW to afford a ticket for me to Dayton, Ohio, than it is to going to Tokyo, Japan. It’s a little bit different on the money scale.”

Adam Copeland – “I Realize That I’m Closer To The Tail End Of My Career”

During the post-AEW Worlds End media scrum, Adam Copeland commented on his injury at AEW Double or Nothing, his ongoing recovery, whether he’d take similar risks in the future, and more.

You can check out some highlights from the media scrum below:

On his injury at Double or Nothing: “You know, it’s one of those deals where if you watch my career, it’s not out of my character to do insane things. It’s kind of what I do every once in a while, like I’ll get a hair up my ass and decide, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna dive through a flaming table, sure.’ So that’s just me. It’s kinda hardwired into me. I also think it’s part of what I’ve gotten to where I’ve gotten.

“That being said, I also realize that I’m closer to the tail end of my career than the beginning. And I have kids now, so there’s a different mindset that goes into it.”

–>

–>

On his recovery: “But in terms of recovery, I’m still lucky in that I recover like Wolverine. And part of that is, I just go after it. The day I can go after it is the day I do it. And I’ve actually been cleared for a while, but Tony and I had the conversation is, our area got hit by a hurricane. So it was much more important to be home… so when real life hits like that, suddenly this — you know, it has to take a second place. And luckily, we’re at a place where that is considered and respected.

“But in terms of being back and being ready, I’m just ready to go. Because every month for me at this stage feels like a year. So I gotta get in, and I gotta get cooking.”

On his goals in 2025: “I mean, if you can think of a goal, that’s what we’re going after. I think they [FTR] should be Tag Team Champions, I think we should win the Trios Championships, I’m going after the World Heavyweight Championship.”

On stepping up to be more ambitious going forward: “You know, for a while when I first got here, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m here. I gotta get the lay of the land, I gotta get everyone to know who I am.’ But that’s gone. Now it’s time to be here to make a difference, to show everybody exactly who I am, exactly who they are. There’s a reason that I’ve accomplished everything I’ve accomplished in this industry. And there’s a reason that nobody can scratch what I’ve accomplished. Take a look; nobody can. And that may sound egotistical, it may sound cocky but when it’s true, it’s just confidence.

“So my plan is to go after Jon Moxley in a match that you’ve never seen before between two guys that are at the top of their field, and go out there and do what we do. Which is to have kickass, old, grinding, gritty, NWA World Heavyweight Title Matches-type vibe. That’s what I want to get out of him. And that’s what I’m looking forward to. And it’s going to happen sooner rather than later.”

Tony Khan has confirmed that this week’s episode of AEW Rampage will be the final broadcast for the time being.

During Friday’s AEW Worlds End 2024 media call, the AEW President reacted to Rampage going off the air. He said,

“It’s a great situation for AEW. We’re getting a new media rights agreement that is huge for us, for many reasons. It’s a massive opportunity for AEW to be able to simulcast our shows and reach new viewers through the streaming service Max,” he told Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone during the media call ahead of AEW Worlds End. “It’s a huge opportunity for us and the deal was very favorable for AEW. We were able to get the rights fees that are many times larger than what we had in our first five years. It completely changes the financial picture of AEW and it’s the big target we have aspired to for many years. Part of that agreement is we would focus on these four hours [of AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision].”

He added, “It is, in many ways, a reimagination of the calendar, but it’s also going to be great for the company. It allows us to really focus on Dynamite and Collision and put more resources into those shows and grow the company,” he said. “By getting right fees that are multiple times higher than we initially had, we put the company on the path to profitability and that’s really important. The company is going to be one of the most successful wrestling companies of all time, on the bottom line, and we’ve grown the business. We developed it and gone through the startup phase, and we had a great media rights deal for many years, and then we built, built and invested and invested in the company, invested in talent, invested in TV, invested in technology infrastructure, international growth, all with this year in mind. Now, we’re just days away from the thing that we all targeted. When I said the TV deal was in the red zone, that it was on the goal line. All those things proved to be true, and we put together this huge media rights deal that now we can make this a very profitable business for many years to come.”

Here’s How The Final Episode Of AEW Rampage Came To An End, HOOK Wins Final Match On Rampage

AEW Rampage has come to an end.

At the conclusion of this week’s episode of AEW Rampage: New Year’s Smash, Jon Moxley came into the production truck to declare that he would bring peace to his “people” by putting the show to an end for good. Moxley instructed the producers to “cut it [the broadcast] right now.”

And with that – that’s a wrap for AEW Rampage for now.

HOOK had a strong finish to 2024 with an impressive win over Nick Wayne at AEW Rampage: New Year’s Smash.

During Friday night’s edition of AEW Rampage, which was the final episode of the show, Wayne targeted HOOK’s arm, which had been previously injured and was in a cast.

Christian Cage and Kip Sabian tried to interfere, but they were both ejected from ringside. The finish came when Katsuyori Shibata appeared to chase off Cage and Sabian, allowing HOOK to lock in his signature submission (Redrum).
