Nick Aldis Talks About Rivalry With Adam Pearce, Elaborates On Potential In-Ring Return & More

Nick Aldis appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the popular INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast for an in-depth interview covering all things pro wrestling.

During the discussion, the WWE SmackDown General Manager spoke about his unique G.M. style, his rivalry with WWE Raw G.M. Adam Pearce, the possibility of an in-ring return and more.

Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview sent to us by Chris Van Vliet where he touches on these topics with his thoughts.

On his unique G.M. style: “I mean, look, my whole thing on this was I had to make it my own. This is also based on some early conversations with Hunter about it. He said ‘I want this to be different. Your General Manager schtick is not going to be the typical authority figure we’ve seen necessarily in the past. You’re not necessarily going to be this.’ Obviously, there’s been some major differences between some of the characters you’ve seen in those roles. But it wasn’t going to necessarily be this sort of insecure, power-hungry sort of guy right off the bat. He said, ‘I want you to be more you, kind of calm and collected and all business.’ I went, ‘I think I know what you want.’ Obviously, there’s a lot of coaching involved and stuff like that. But in the beginning, I was like I think I’ve got what you have in mind, we sort of went that way, and it seemed to work.”

On if he may have said goodbye to his in-ring career by accepting a GM role: “I guess. But I also don’t necessarily see it like that 100%. I see it more as a sort of maybe not a full-time wrestler, but I don’t know. Look, it gets asked all the time by everyone except me. I have never once said, ‘Hey what about me? Could I wrestle?’ Because I don’t need to. If and when the time comes, it’ll be what they want and it will hopefully be the right time. I just told them that if you want to do that, I’m ready.”

On if he is at peace with his in-ring career if he never wrestles again: “In all honesty, no. I would like to lace them up. I don’t care if it’s on a regular basis but I’ve earned it, once. I don’t know. If it was one more time, so be it. Like I said, I feel like I meet the criteria to be on that canvas at least once. [My bicep is] 100%.”

On Adam Pearce: “There is something there, it’s mutual respect. I love the dynamic between Adam and I. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s something that you can go to, then get away from for a bit and go back to. I think Hunter’s approach and look, I don’t like to speak on his behalf, obviously, but I think that a lot of the time he does like to have a sort of combination of long-term planning and some improvisation where it’s sort of like, to me, I’ve always felt like that’s the key is you need to know where you’re going. You need to have a destination in mind and I think you sort of have to have pit stops along the way that are sort of maybes, maybe we’ll go there, maybe this will lead to this, maybe we’ll get to that. Randy Orton RKO’d me out of the blue last time SmackDown was in Brooklyn. Then a week later it’s like he cuts me a check. He goes, ‘Oh, that’s for next time.’ But we haven’t gone back to it thankfully. But it’s like, I think Hunter likes having fun with little things like that, laying some breadcrumbs here and there, planting a seed, whatever. And that’s how I look at me and Adam is like there’s always potential there.”

On being hit with an RKO by Randy Orton: “I still feel funny. I know we’re in 2024 but I still feel funny about giving away [the secrets]. But it’s like, whatever I’ve done it now, I can’t not give it to you. It was called on the fly, audible. [How was it supposed to go?] It’s Roman, it’s Randy, who’s he [Orton] gonna sign with, and then he was gonna sign the SmackDown contract and stare down Roman, and I think that was it. Then it was like somebody told somebody told somebody while I was ringside. So I had to go in and call it. I’ve never gotten to the bottom of who was behind it. I still feel weird giving away the magic. It seems to have been one of these moments that connects. So it’s like, there seems to be a heightened level of interest on that particular moment, because it was quite out of the blue, even for me.”

Kofi Kingston Addresses Odyssey Jones Being Abruptly Taken Off WWE TV: “You Never Know …”

Odyssey Jones was making a name for himself within the wrestling community just a couple of months ago.

He hit a viral double sidewalk slam of both massive Authors of Pain members, was gelling with The New Day duo of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods at the start of their in-fighting issues, and then …

And then he was gone.

During a recent interview with the New York Post, Kingston was asked about the abrupt removal of Jones from WWE television.

–>

–>

“One of the main lessons that I’ve learned is that you never know what tomorrow is going to bring with WWE,” Kingston said. “You always have to be ready to adjust at the drop of a hat. There have been times where we have known what’s going to happen at a “Monday Night Raw” for weeks and we work towards that, and then we get into the building, and then all of a sudden, we’re doing the exact opposite.”

Kingston continued, “It’s your ability to adjust and roll with the punches that pulls you up. Nothing ever goes as planned. So all that to say, you know, once Odyssey was out of the mix, we just had to figure out a way to pivot and keep the story going and keep on moving forward, because, as they say, the show must go on. You figure out the best ways to adjust.”

Nick Aldis Reveals He Has Two Separate Contracts With WWE, Addresses Potential In-Ring Return

Nick Aldis is a busy man these days.

In addition to his on-air role as the General Manager of WWE SmackDown, the pro wrestling veteran also serves as a behind-the-scenes producer for matches and segments featured on WWE programming each week.

For example, the most recent episode of WWE SmackDown last Friday night, November 15, Aldis produced every single dark match and the bout taped for WWE Speed, for a total of four matches.

During a recent appearance on the popular INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Aldis spoke about having two separate contracts with WWE for this reason.

–>

–>

“I have two [jobs]. [A] producer and a talent,” Aldis told Van Vliet regarding his role(s) in WWE. “I have two contracts.”

Aldis continued, “An employee contract as a producer and a talent contract for the General Manager role.”

Later in the interview, Aldis spoke about whether or not he ever sees himself returning to the squared circle for a match in WWE.

“Look, it gets asked all the time by everyone except me,” Aldis said. “I have never once said, hey what about me? Could I wrestle? Because I don’t need to.”

He added, “If and when the time comes it’ll be what they want, and it will hopefully be the right time. I just told them that if you want to do that, I’m ready.”

The road to WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 continued on Monday night.

The Monday, November 18 episode of WWE Raw kicked off from the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan with Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez coming to the ring, where they were joined by Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton and Candice LeRae.

As the five stood tall in the ring, the theme for Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair hit, and the WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champions made their way out, accompanied by Naomi. They brought out IYO SKY and the four went to the ring to confront the aforementioned group of five women’s competitors.

When the two sides stood on opposite sides of the ring, Morgan pointed out that her side had the numbers advantage.
