Former Pittsburgh Penguins Player Dies

PITTSBURGH, PA β€” Konstantin Koltsov, who played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the early 2000s, has died at 42.

Russian club Salavat Yulaev confirmed his death Tuesday in a social media statement.

Koltsov, a forward, played for the Belarus national team in the 2002 and 2010 Olympics and spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins in the early 2000s.

β€œIt is with deep sorrow that we inform you that the coach of Salavat Yulaev, Konstantin Koltsov, has passed away,” Salavat Yulaev, which is based in the Russian city of Ufa, said in the statement.

According to Belarusian media outlet Telegraf, Kolstov died of a detached blood clot.
