Kara's K9 Waffle Treats Offer All Natural, Preservative-Free Yummies

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — As a full-time surgical veterinary technician, Kara Beron surrounds herself with four-legged fur babies all day long. On the weekends, she sells waffle treats at special events across Maryland and surrounding areas.

The spouse of a veterinarian and mom to three dogs, Beron said her pups are the reason why she started making the waffle treats. Mylo, a husky-lab mix, is nine years old, while Fritz, a Boston terrier, is 11 years old. Suki, a Japanese chin-Pomeranian mix, is five years old.

“With being a full-time veterinary technician, we are always keeping up on information and tips on how to keep our pets fit and healthy. When the FDA issued a warning and alert on many Chinese-made treats that I, myself, used to buy for my puppies at home, it was enough to motivate me to start making my own waffle treats since I knew exactly what ingredients were going into my batter,” Beron told Patch.

She set out with the goal of providing tasty, healthy, all natural, preservative-free waffle treats made in a waffle iron so they are crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. She offers more than 35 different flavors and makes birthday waffle cakes as well as Christmas iced waffles decorated with green and red sprinkles through her business, Kara’s K9 Waffle Treats.

Her Facebook page shows customers the area markets she’s selling treats at, and fresh goodies available in her shop.

The business is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 7 p.m., Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
