New Women’s World Championship unveiled on WWE Raw

Rhea Ripley is now the Women’s World Champion.

The start of Raw on Monday saw Ripley walk down to the ring, where Adam Pearce was already standing ready to present Ripley with the new championship. It is similar in design with the new World Heavyweight Championship that Seth Rollins won back at Night of Champions last month.

After the ceremony, Dominik Mysterio came to the ring and celebrated with Ripley, putting the new championship around her waist. This led to a confrontation between Mysterio and Cody Rhodes, setting up a match for Money in the Bank.

On last week’s SmackDown, Asuka was presented with a new WWE Women’s Championship, replacing the Raw Women’s Championship. However, this championship continues the lineage of the Women’s Championship that was established in 2016.

The SmackDown Women’s championship was introduced in 2016 as the top women’s title on the SmackDown brand. When the 2023 WWE Draft took place earlier this year, SmackDown champion Ripley was drafted to Raw, while Raw Champion Bianca Belair was drafted to SmackDown.
