Amanda Nunes announced her retirement from MMA following her win at UFC 289.

In the main event of Saturday’s UFC pay-per-view, Nunes dominated Irene Aldana, winning via unanimous decision (50-44, 50-44, 50-43). After the fight, Nunes placed both the UFC Bantamweight and Featherweight titles on the ground, then placed her gloves on the ground and announced her retirement from MMA.

“Tonight is a perfect night to retire,” she said in her post-fight interview. During her interview, she noted that she was the only Brazilian champion in the UFC, saying “Brazil, get your s*** together! I believe in you!”

Nunes originally won the Bantamweight title from Meisha Tate on July 9, 2016. She briefly lost the championship to Juliana Pena in December of 2021 before regaining it on July 30 of last year. She has also held the Featherweight Championship, defeating Cris Cyborg in July of 2017. She has been champion ever since, her most recent featherweight title defense taking place in March of 2021.

Nunes ends her MMA career with 23 wins and 5 losses, with her career beginning in 2008.
