Giovanni Vinci Goes 0-2 Since Returning With Repackaged New Character

Don’t judge a book by its’ cover.

That lesson was taught in the world of WWE on Friday night … once again.

During the September 20 episode of WWE SmackDown on USA Network from the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, a rematch took place between Giovanni Vinci and Apollo Crews.

Vinci, who based on vignettes promoting his repackaged persona was going to get pushed as a new top heel singles act, once again came up short.

–>

–>

Their first meeting saw Crews roll up Vinci and pin him before he even took his entrance jacket off. This time, Vinci fared better, beating Crews down for a minute or so before ultimately succumbing to the same outcome.

As noted, the creative direction for Giovanni Vinci’s new character in WWE is one that many behind-the-scenes in the company are not in favor of. Regardless, the direction hasn’t seemed to change.

Giovanni Vinci is now 0-2 since returning with his new character on the SmackDown brand.

Sammy Guevara Reflects On Having Cody Rhodes’ Last AEW Match: “He Wanted To Do So Much Craziness”

Sammy Guevara not only holds the distinction as the man in the first-ever AEW singles match at Double Or Nothing, he was also the opponent for Cody Rhodes’ last-ever match in AEW before jumping-ship back to WWE.

During the latest installment of Conversation with DDP on the DDP YOGA YouTube channel, “The Spanish God” reflected on defeating Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship in a ladder match at AEW Dynamite: Beach Break 2022, as well as the memorable mid-air cutter spot from the bout.

“Going into that match, Cody, you know him,” Guevara began. “He wants to give the people a show they’re never gonna forget. I didn’t know it at the time, maybe he did, but that was also his final AEW match. He could have easily phoned it in, but he gave it 110%. He wanted to do so much craziness, and so going into it, I know what Cody’s mindset is, it’s just go balls to the walls. So I’m thinking of all these crazy things.”

Guevara continued, “On the plane, the whole time, I’m just thinking, ‘What can we do?’ I know The Hardys, they would do a move where Jeff Hardy would spring off the top rope, over the ladder, into a leg drop, and then I thought, ‘What can I do? Something like that?’ Oh, if he’s over there, a cutter? Is that even possible? The only tricky part was if that ladder that I sprang up to jump off of kicks out behind me, we’re gonna have a Botchamania moment, you know? That’s definitely not what you want on live TV. It’s just go big or go home, and it’s one of those moments that’s gonna live on past me, I feel like. I’m so happy it worked out.”

Eddie Dennis Reflects On WWE Run, PROGRESS World Title Shot & Coming Out Of Retirement

Eddie Dennis recently spoke with our friends at PW Mania for an in-depth interview covering all things pro wrestling.

During the discussion, the wrestling star spoke about his time in WWE, his world title shot in PROGRESS Wrestling, coming out of retirement and his ambitions.

Click Here: manly sea eagles team jersey

Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview where he touches on these topics with his thoughts.

On his time in WWE: “Obviously the most noticeable difference between working with WWE and on the independents is the financial security the WWE offers. I’m grateful for all of my time there. Whether as a wrestler, manager or writer. All 3 roles developed my understanding of the industry and moulded me into the person that I am today. With regards best minds, I don’t want to start and then feel like I’ve missed someone out. As far as talent that I’ve shared the ring with, the top talent on the U.K. scene right now are every bit as good as many of the people you see on your televisions on a weekly basis.”

–>

–>

On his PROGRESS World Title shot: “I don’t want too much to be made of the fact that I never lost the championship because I got my opportunity to regain the title in Cardiff in 2021 against Spike and I lost. This run at progress since returning from retirement in 2023 has been about proving to myself that I still have something to offer. Luke Jacobs is the ultimate litmus test in British Independent Wrestling in 2024.”

On coming out of retirement and his ambitions: “I don’t really have any ambitions left. Last time I retired it was because I wasn’t allowed to wrestle and write at the same time so I feel like I didn’t leave on my own terms. These last 10 months have really been about addressing that and if I stopped tomorrow I feel like I would’ve accomplished that goal.”

Jim Ross Predicts WWE Runs A Show At Sphere In Las Vegas, Doesn’t Think AEW Will

Who will be the first pro wrestling company to run a spectacle-driven super-show at the groundbreaking Sphere venue in Las Vegas, Nevada?

Jim Ross has a good idea.

The WWE Hall of Fame legend and AEW broadcast team member explained on his latest “Grilling J.R.” podcast that WWE President Nick Khan’s connections in “Sin City” mixed with WWE’s history of being a trendsetter and innovator in the industry, will likely lead to the company running the first wrestling event at Sphere.

“I think Nick Khan will lead the way because of all of their Vegas connections,” Ross said. “It would surprise me if WWE was not the first company to go into the Sphere.”

–>

–>

Ross continued, “It has a very distinct and different look. it’s kind of like Arthur Ashe in a sense that you run it once a year, maybe twice a year max. Somebody will jump on it and WWE has been proven that they are generally the first jumpers. I think there’ll be wrestling in the Sphere, I think it’ll be WWE first.”

If WWE does, in fact, become the first pro wrestling promotion to run the Sphere, he doesn’t see AEW playing second fiddle and following suit anytime soon after.

“If that happens, then why would AEW zoom in and look like a copycat,” Ross questioned. “They wouldn’t. They have some distance between it. It has a unique look, why not try it? It’s going to be a very — WWE’s got a huge production staff, much larger than AEW. The guys at AEW do a lot of multitasking and do more than one thing. I like what’s going on, the sphere is another new and as we said, fans love new. This would sure be new.”

Ken Shamrock Recalls Infamous Chair Shot From The Rock, Possibly Taking First-Ever ‘People’s Elbow’

As noted, Ken Shamrock appeared on the latest installment of the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast for an in-depth interview covering his legendary pro wrestling and MMA career.

During the discussion, “The World’s Strongest Man” spoke about the infamous chair shot he took from The Rock, possibly taking the first-ever ‘People’s Elbow’ and more.

Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview where he touches on these topics with his thoughts.

On that chair shot from The Rock: “I enjoyed the chair shot. Everybody keeps looking at that, and they say it over and, oh, man, that must have hurt. For me, it’s funny, because it would hurt so much more if I didn’t see it coming. I wanted it. I was like, ‘Bro, you were not hitting me in the head, the top of the head or back of the head. I want you to hit me right in the face.’ He’s like, shut up. He thought I was kidding. I was like, ‘Bro, come on, man. I’m not taking it to the back of the head or top of the head. If you’re gonna swing, you swing for my face and I’ll take care of the rest.’ I mean, I literally said that, swing for my face and I will protect myself. He looked at me with this bewildered like, where’s the punchline? Where’s the joke here? And I looked and I said, ‘No, I’m serious.’ And he’s like, ‘I’m not doing that.’ I said ‘[then] I’m not taking it.’ I said ‘Swing from my face. I’ll protect myself.’ And he goes, ‘You sure?’ And I was like, Yeah. And I remember, I looked at him in the eyes and I go ‘You better swing it.’ And he says, ‘Oh, I’ll swing it.’”

–>

–>

On how he protected himself, if at all: “Well, he swung for my face like I asked him to. And I told him it’s not his responsibility. It’s mine. You, swing it and I’ll do the rest. And so he did, and all I did was just like I would in a fight. I tucked my chin and it hit me right in the forehead. Anybody knows how the skull is put together, the thickest part is your forehead. Just like in football, and now they can’t do it, but you usually hit with the forehead. And if you get punched, most of the time, if you hit somebody in the forehead, you break your hand. So I just logically thought if I was going to get hit in the head, hit me in the hardest part. That was a great moment, though, because I had no idea what it would look like or what the impact of that would be. It was just basically a thought in my head, because I saw everybody else doing it, and I was like that is just a dumb way to take a chair, getting hit in the top of the head, back of the head, and I ain’t doing that. Hit me in the forehead.”

On possibly taking the first-ever ‘People’s Elbow’ from The Rock: “It had to be [one of the first], that’s a long time ago. I remember looking at that video. I mean, I don’t even think Rock knew how to perfect it yet. Because when he was just starting, I remember laying on the mat looking up at him, going, bro, this is just not a good site. You don’t have to be standing over the top and with your legs spread pointing to the crowd that long, make your move! [laughs]. That was one thing great about working with The Rock is that I felt like that was a great opportunity for us to really put ourselves in the mix with the greats. Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold, The Undertaker. That was a loaded roster, and I felt like me and Rock had the opportunity to put us in the mix on one of the best matches on the card those nights that we were together. It felt like the more that we worked together, the better we became. To a point where I believe that we were rivalling any main event that they put on our card, and that was a testament to The Rock and some of the hard work that he put into those matches with me and him.”

Also during the interview, Ken Shamrock spoke about not being in the WWE Hall of Fame, and confirmed that he has is currently under a WWE Legends contract. Continue reading …
