Princeton Mayor Mark Freda Announces 2024 Reelection Bid

PRINCETON, NJ – Princeton Mayor Mark Freda announced Friday he was seeking reelection in 2024.

“The opportunity to be serving as your mayor has been a privilege. The past three years have also brought expanded relationships with Mercer County, with our State Assembly and Senate representatives and with Princeton University. Significant progress has been made for the future of our municipality,” Freda said.

“A renegotiation of our agreement with Princeton University, Experience Princeton, our special improvement district is bringing focus and action to our business community and the local economy. We are investigating ways to improve our public transportation system. And there is an ongoing commitment to affordable housing.”

Freda began serving as Mayor when the country was under COVID-19 restrictions with small businesses suffering losses and many struggling with housing needs.

He spoke about how Princeton navigated the unprecedented challenges during that time and how the Municipality continues to support those in need.

“We’ve supported and continued to support those in need. We’ve transitioned to remote and now hybrid meetings of the Mayor and Council to keep our operations running. Princeton is a desirable place to live, which puts pressure on housing prices,” he said.

Freda said he would work towards balanced growth and density to maintain the mix of people that makes Princeton attractive. Ensuring safe bike routes in town was also a priority, as were road conditions and community parks.

“My commitment to you is this – I will continue to leverage my over 40 years of experience in civic and public service to address these challenges head-on. We will work together to keep Princeton a vibrant, diverse and forward-thinking community. I welcome the exchange of ideas that the coming campaign will bring and look forward to hearing from the residents of Princeton about their concerns and their ideas in the months leading up to the primary in June. 4.”

This year, Councilwoman Eve Niedergang will not be seeking reelection. Current BOE member Brian McDonald, whose term ends in 2024 is running for the same Council seat.

Freda worked as President of the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad for two years and previously served on the Princeton Boro Council for 13 years. He was also Chair of the Joint Boro—Township Transition Task Force. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the College of New Jersey.

Body of British woman linked to cult will be exhumed two years after her “mysterious sudden” death in Kenya, family says

The body of a British woman who died at the house of a controversial cult leader while on holiday in Kenya will be exhumed on Wednesday, the family’s lawyer said. Luftunisa Kwandwalla, 44, was visiting the coastal city of Mombasa when she died in August 2020, and was buried a day later, but her family has claimed foul play.

At the time, the cult leader Arif Mohamed Iqbal — a self-confessed healer — said the “devil” had killed the woman as he tried to exorcise her, according to court papers filed by the family.

“We are heading to the site,” the family’s lawyer, Jacinta Wekesa, told AFP, referring to the Mombasa cemetery where Kwandwalla was buried.

An autopsy to determine the cause of her death is expected later Wednesday.

Her initial cause of death was listed as cardiopulmonary arrest, according to a government-issued death certificate in 2020.

Kwandwalla arrived in Kenya in August 2019 to visit members of her husband’s family. During her stay, she joined Iqbal’s controversial cult, according to court filings.

She had been due to fly back to her home in the English city of Leicester but travel restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic prevented the trip.

The family is calling for police to investigate Kwandwalla’s “mysterious sudden” death, claiming she was buried quickly to conceal evidence.

“The hurried burial of the deceased without allowing her family members to attend the burial and view the body has brought pain and anguish to the family who deserves to know what killed her,” Kwandwalla’s brother, Imran Admani, said in court papers.

The family said Arif could not explain how the devil had killed her, describing him as “lying and dangerous to vulnerable people.”

Earlier this month, a Mombasa magistrate’s court allowed the family to hire a private pathologist for the postmortem and ordered police to provide security during the exhumation.

So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the death.

Darby Allin On Recent Street Fight Match On AEW Dynamite: “I Almost Broke My Neck”

Darby Allin is one of AEW’s most daring superstars, but even the former two-time TNT Champion knows that he is cutting it close.

Allin spoke with KSDK about the street fight tag team match from Dynamite Homecoming, where he and Sting defeated Powerhouse Hobbs and Konosuke Takeshita in the show’s main event. At one point in the match, Allin was rag-dolled across the ring and his head whiplashed off the ropes. He reveals during the interview that he nearly broke his neck on the spot.

The thing with AEW is, you can expect the unexpected. I mean that, I’m not just trying to sell anything. Every week, there is crazy shenanigans going on. Last week, I almost broke my neck. This week, we have so much crazy stuff. Literally, it’s something different every week. We don’t play it safe. I was in town, I saw this arch, and I kind of want to jump off of it.

Allin was then asked whether he ever gets nervous when performing in the ring. This was his answer:

I never get nervous because I embrace going to the hospital. I live at the hospital.

Sting and Allin have an undefeated record as a tag team in AEW. Ahead of Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution in March the duo have made it their mission to capture the tag team titles.

“We’ve lost the art of intimacy and we need to get it back,” Friedman said in a statement announcing his upcoming lectures in Wilmette.

Back in 1992, the New York Times described him as “the slick, almost hip young dean” of the women’s institute, which launched in Minnesota in 1971.

Friedman is scheduled to appear in Wilmette on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10 to speak at the Chabad Center for Jewish Life & Learning, 2904 Old Glenview Road in Wilmette.

And Friedman’s keynote speech on Saturday afternoon is titled “Jewish Identity In a Post-October 7th World.” According to its description, it will feature a “frank exploration of the profound shifts and newfound perspectives that define our collective identity in this evolving era.”

More than 25,000 people have been killed since Oct. 7 in the aforementioned sconflict, including more than 24,000 Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, 1,200 people in Israel and at least 83 journalists and media workers, according to the Committee to Project Journalists.

Organizers said his lectures will provide attendees with a “unique opportunity” to find meaning in their journeys and explore the essence of life.

AEW Believed To Have Made Kazuchika Okada A Stronger Initial Offer Than WWE

Kazuchika Okada is leaving NJPW this month when his contract expires, and he has plenty of interest from AEW and WWE.

As previously reported, the belief in WWE is that it’s a real possibility, considering his age and his close relationship with Shinsuke Nakamura, who previously made the switch from NJPW to WWE. Okada has never worked for WWE while having accomplished everything in NJPW.

Recent reports suggest that he is seriously considering the possibility of joining a different wrestling promotion. People in WWE do believe that maybe there’s a better chance of getting him now than before.

According to the most recent issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported someone close to Okada stated “Although nothing has officially begun, it appears that both companies are determined to compete for him.”

Meltzer added that it is believed that AEW has made a more stronger initial offer, but as of now, no agreement has been finalized.”

Prince Harry’s memoir, titled “Spare,” is coming out Jan. 10: “This is his story at last”

Prince Harry’s memoir, an object of obsessive anticipation worldwide since first announced last year, is coming out Jan. 10. The book will be called “Spare” and is being billed by Penguin Random House as an account told with “raw, unflinching honesty” and filled with “insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

In a statement released Thursday, Penguin Random House summoned memories of the stunning death in 1997 of Prince Harry’s mother, Diana, and of Harry and his brother, William, “walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow – and horror.”

“As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling – and how their lives would play out from that point on,” the statement reads in part.

“For Harry, this is his story at last.”

The memoir’s title is an apparent reference to Prince Harry’s being a royal “spare,” not the first in line to succession. William, Prince of Wales, is next in line.

The 416-page book will come out in 16 languages, from Dutch to Portuguese, and also will be released in an audio edition read by Prince Harry. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Harry, the Duke of Sussex, will be using proceeds from “Spare” to donate to British charities. He has already given $1.5 million to Sentebale, an organization he co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to help children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS.

Penguin Random House identifies Prince Harry as “a husband, father, humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist.”

Royals watchers and the public at large have speculated endlessly since the book was first announced in July 2021, billed as “intimate and heartfelt” and tentatively scheduled for this year.

The Duke of Sussex had already revealed a news-making willingness to discuss his private life when he and his American-born wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, were interviewed for a March 2021 broadcast by their neighbor in Santa Barbara, California, Oprah Winfrey. The couple spoke of Meghan’s deep unhappiness with her new life in England, the alleged racism within the royal family and Harry’s fear that his wife’s life might be endangered had they remained in his native country.

In 1992, Diana worked with author Andrew Morton on her explosive memoir “Diana: Her True Story,” in which she described at length her unhappy marriage to the future King Charles, Harry’s father.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the U.S. Harry told Winfrey that his family cut him off financially and that he helped pay for his security with money left to him by his mother. They have launched numerous initiatives, including a Netflix production deal and the “impact-driven non-profit” Archewell Foundation.

The book’s delay led to rumors that Harry was hesitating to say too much about his family, or was perhaps revising the narrative after his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September. He has spoken of being estranged from his brother, William, although the siblings and their wives appeared in public together during the mourning period following the queen’s death.

According to one veteran royal correspondent, however, it was a moment in time, not a rift completely mended.

“I think there are some major unresolved issues at foot,” Roya Nikkhah, a royal correspondent who’s reported on the monarchy for over a decade, told CBS News. “For William and Harry to agree to come together and do that walkabout was not plain sailing.”

In his first address to the nation as monarch, King Charles III seemed to offer an olive branch to Harry, saying: “I also want to express my love for Harry and Meghan, as they continue to build their lives overseas.”

But he also highlighted the brothers’ divergent paths, promoting William to the role of Prince of Wales, which has traditionally been assigned to heirs-in-waiting, and Kate to Princess of Wales, a title last used by Princess Diana.

“Had Harry and Meghan not stepped back from royal duties when they did, they would have stepped up, too, in terms of positioning, role, seniority,” said Nikkhah. “He’s still the son of the king, but he’s hanging out with movie stars and making Netflix shows in America.”

Tony Khan Touts January 18th AEW Dynamite Viewership and Ratings, Thanks Wrestlers, Staff, and Fans

Tony Khan is on top of the world.

The AEW President took to social media to tout the viewership and ratings numbers that last night’s AEW Dynamite pulled in. Khan writes, “Thank you all who watched Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite on TBS last night
Thank you to all the AEW wrestlers + staff + fansBecause of you yesterday Dynamite did our biggest
@AEWonTV rating since Grand Slam in September! It’s going to be an amazing 2024 for AEW thanks to you all.”

The biggest growth in viewership for last night’s show was the world championship matchup between Samoa Joe and HOOK. Despite putting up a great fight, HOOK would get choked out by the champ, marking only the second time he’s been defeated in AEW since he started competing back in 2021.
