NXT Ratings Report: Did Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breaker help it beat AEW Collision’s debut viewership? Key demo info and historical perspective

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

This Tuesday’s (6/20) episode of NXT on USA Network drew 773,000 viewers, up from 581,000 the prior week. It’s the biggest audience NXT has had since it drew 841,000 on April 20, 2021, more than two years ago. It’s among the ten highest audience levels since the start of 2020. The increase in audience was sparked by the heavily-hyped Seth Rollins defense of the World Hvt. Championship against NXT mainstay Bron Breakker, which included promos by Seth and Breakker on Raw the night before.

This week’s viewership was within 3,000 viewers of the lowest rated episode of AEW Dynamite and within 49,000 total viewers of last week’s Dynamite. (This week’s Dynamite viewership isn’t in yet.) It’s also within 43,000 viewers of the debut episode of AEW Collision last Saturday.

NXT averaged 578,000 viewers the prior four weeks, so it’s unlikely NXT will remain within this type of range of AEW’s two flagship two hour prime time cable shows, but a little turbo boost from Seth’s special appearance and extra hype on Raw got NXT closer than it has in years.

In the key 18-49 demo, NXT drew a 0.23 rating, up from 0.16 last week and the 0.17 average the prior four weeks. AEW drew a 0.30 rating in that key demo last week, so AEW still has the advantage among the younger demographic. NXT finished no. 2 overall in the cable rankings on Tuesday, according to Showbuzz Daily. Only the College World Series on ESPN outdrew it, drawing a 0.43 in the key demo.

Kara's K9 Waffle Treats Offer All Natural, Preservative-Free Yummies

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — As a full-time surgical veterinary technician, Kara Beron surrounds herself with four-legged fur babies all day long. On the weekends, she sells waffle treats at special events across Maryland and surrounding areas.

The spouse of a veterinarian and mom to three dogs, Beron said her pups are the reason why she started making the waffle treats. Mylo, a husky-lab mix, is nine years old, while Fritz, a Boston terrier, is 11 years old. Suki, a Japanese chin-Pomeranian mix, is five years old.

“With being a full-time veterinary technician, we are always keeping up on information and tips on how to keep our pets fit and healthy. When the FDA issued a warning and alert on many Chinese-made treats that I, myself, used to buy for my puppies at home, it was enough to motivate me to start making my own waffle treats since I knew exactly what ingredients were going into my batter,” Beron told Patch.

She set out with the goal of providing tasty, healthy, all natural, preservative-free waffle treats made in a waffle iron so they are crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. She offers more than 35 different flavors and makes birthday waffle cakes as well as Christmas iced waffles decorated with green and red sprinkles through her business, Kara’s K9 Waffle Treats.

Her Facebook page shows customers the area markets she’s selling treats at, and fresh goodies available in her shop.

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

Sanada succesfully retained the IWGP World Hvt. Championship at Dominion earlier today.

Sanada wrestled Yota Tsuji in the main event of one of NJPW’s biggest PPV events of the year. The match got off to a chaotic start with Tsuji winning over the crowd with his performance during the early going. Tsuji hit a spear early in the match, but was unable to hit another one again, as Sanada had a counter for every attempt he had.

Tsuji showed great power and charisma during the match making his first appearance in Japan since returning from his excursion in CMLL in Mexico. He was able to block Sanada’s first Muta Moonsault attempt, but Sanada connected wtih it later in the match. He also blocked Sanada’s first Deadfall Attempt, but he managed to hit it to finish him off late in the match.

After the match, LIJ left Tsuji behind. Tsuji was shown smiling as he was helped ot the back by a Young Lion. Sanada told Tsuji to put in the work and he would grant him a rematch for the title when he earned it. Hulk Hogan comments on WWE sale

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

Hulk Hogan says he understands the security that selling the WWE provides Vince McMahon, but that he’s shocked McMahon wouldn’t be involved in the business 24/7.

In an interview with The MMA Hour, Hogan discussed the sale and talked about Vince McMahon’s work ethic within the company.

“Business wise, the amount of money it generated for him, and where it’s put him in this catbird position, up on this financial pedestal, I understand the security of it,” Hogan said of the sale. “Shocked that he would not be 24/7 involved with the business. That guy never stopped. It was seven days a week. I’d go to Monday Night Raw, and we’d have a post-production meeting at one o’clock in the morning after the show was over. I’d sneak back to my hotel, he’d be banging on my door at 2:30, 3:00, ‘Come on, monster. Let’s go work out.’ Used to drive me crazy. Then he’d sleep for four hours and have another 20-hour day. It was like that every day.

“His plane, he had a big extended G4, I used to call it the slave ship. He talked me into going on it and flying to Monday Night Raw, then he’d never let me go home. ‘Oh, come on back to New York for three days. We need to California for a day.’ So I was surprised that he walked away from the lifestyle because that was him, he loved it.”

McMahon sold the WWE to Endeavor in April and will be the Executive Chairman of a new business entity that includes the UFC.

Braun Strowman Believes Bray Wyatt Was The “Epitome Of Talking On A Microphone”

Braun Strowman discusses Bray Wyatt’s mic work.

The Monster Among Men called the late former Universal Champion the “epitome of talking on the microphone” during a recent interview with Bill Apter from Sportskeeda. His full thoughts can be read below.

Bray Wyatt was, in my opinion, the epitome of talking on a microphone with his character work, being able to go in and out of all these multiple characters, see his facial expressions change, hear his voice change. I don’t know anyone who’s done it, other than Paul Heyman, who’s just been timeless with what he does as a manager and stuff like that. But he still doesn’t have the range and abilities to go through these multiple different characters that Bray had inside of his head. So in my opinion, it’s Bray Wyatt.

Elsewhere in the interview, Strowman gave a medical update on his injury and hinted and when he thinks he might be able to return to the ring. You can read about that here.

CM Punk and AEW work through issues, announcement expected tonight, challenges remain

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

The return of CM Punk is expected to be announced tonight on AEW Dynamite, or it will be implied based on Tony Khan announcing the first edition of AEW Collision will take place in Chicago, Ill. at United Center. PWTorch has independently verified that is the plan. Fightful Select reported earlier today that the trajectory appeared to be Punk and AEW had cleared up their issues.

After a week of uncertainty, it appears Punk and AEW have worked out key issues that led to his name being removed from a prepared press release last week when the new AEW Collision series was announced at Warner Bros. Discovery’s (WBD) upfronts.

Reportedly Punk was upset that Ace Steel, a longtime friend of his from the indy circuit, wasn’t going to be allowed back in AEW arenas stemming from Steel’s role in the locker room fight last September with AEW EVPs Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, and Kenny Omega.

Fightful Select has reported today that AEW asked Punk to sign some legal papers prohibiting Punk from speaking about certain topics and basically requiring him to show up for work. AEW sources told PWTorch there was concern that the Punk situation could damage Warner’s trust in Tony Khan and AEW to be able to sufficiently deal with internal matters. Having to pull Punk’s name from the press release announcing a new show, which Warner is presumably paying big rights fees for, was a setback as it shifted the buzz from excitement about the new show starring Punk to a week of conversation about whether Punk would even return to AEW rings.

WBD even issued a statement last Wednesday saying Punk wasn’t affiliated with Collision.

Last week on Dynamite, Khan announced several dates for Collision TV events, but left off the first show on June 17. He teased a follow-up this week. The hold-up seemed to be that without Punk on the roster, they would change their plans to run the first Collision at United Center, so they needed to work out issues with Punk before finalizing that venue and announcing ticket sales.

There was growing consternation within AEW over the uncertainty of Punk’s status and the drama sparked by Punk’s public statements including at the post-All Out media Q&A and on social media, including digs at AEW’s EVPs and Chris Jericho.

If Punk and AEW couldn’t get on the same page, there was concern expressed to PWTorch from various wrestlers about the schedule they’d be asked to work. One wrestler outright told us he didn’t sign up for working two TVs per week. AEW appears to be planning for largely separate rosters on Dynamite and Collision. The press release for Collision listed wrestlers who hadn’t been on Dynamite regularly lately, including Thunder Rosa, Andrade, and Miro.

The Collision roster appeared to be assembled around wrestlers who haven’t had issues with Punk in the past or would be good opponents for Punk (Powerhouse Hobbs, Samoa Joe), or wrestlers who had issues with other AEW wrestlers currently regularly appearing on Dynamite (Andrade, Thunder Rosa). Top Dynamite regulars such as “Hangman” Adam Page, Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, and the Young Bucks were not included in the list of featured wrestlers on the Collision press release.

If AEW can run two largely distinct rosters on separate shows, it can give viewers more of a reason to watch both shows each week and also avoid locker room issues. However, it could create a challenge for event ticket sales if fans believe they’re only going to see half of the AEW roster whether they attend a Dynamite or a Collision event. Perhaps AEW will run dark matches after Collision featuring Dynamite’s top wrestlers in a bonus match to help with ticket sales, but that would require top wrestlers working a second night each week and put wrestlers who don’t along in the same locker room again. Logistically, several wrestlers have expressed to PWTorch concern over the number of travel days each week if that is the plan. If Collision were taped on Thursday, the day after Dynamite, that’d be less of an issue, but it would then raise concerns about Collision seeming like a secondary show and results would circulate widely in the days before the show aired.

Punk will have a chance to prove himself as the centerpiece star of the new AEW Saturday series. Being a leader on and off camera, staying healthy, and producing consistently strong promos and matches will be a key to him being an anchor that an entire AEW weekly two-show can be centered around. Reports indicate he is motivated for the challenge and, at age 44 with two injury setbacks the last two years, is still looking to prove himself and earn some excellent paydays along the way.

AEW has teased on their Twitter page that “anything can happen” on the last Dynamite before AEW Double or Nothing.
