ELMHURST, IL – The place that was once known as the Elmhurst Knights of Columbus has a new name – The Renaissance Room.
Recently, Patch received an inquiry about the change. And someone asked the same question on social media.
In February, the Knights of Columbus, 537 S. York St., announced on Facebook that it was renaming its hall to The Renaissance Room. It called the venue Elmhurst’s “premier destination for community gatherings, family events, and weekly, social fun.”

The Facebook page was renamed to “The Renaissance Room/Elmhurst.” So was the Knights’ website.

In the Facebook post, The Renaissance Room said, “We made certain we looked our best this year…new coat of paint, upgrades to our washrooms, and a beautiful new bar top in the club.”

In response to a recent Patch email, Lyndsy Nelms, the event coordinator and bar manager, called the Knights of Columbus the charitable organization side.
“The location is still the same, just some rebranding and renovations. The Renaissance Room is the banquet hall/bar that is rentable by the community for use of many events including fundraisers, baby showers, birthdays and even weddings,” she said. “I strive to accommodate all parties and make it a memorable experience.”
The hall used to be known as the 1911 Club, referring to the Knights of Columbus chapter number. 1911 Club is listed as a business in the state’s database. That information has not been updated yet.
In February 2023, the Knights of Columbus got in the news when Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke to Chicago police officers there. His visit drew protesters, who criticized his approach to LGBT issues and Black history. Local police were on hand.
Three months later, DeSantis announced he was running for president. He lost to Donald Trump in the Republican primaries.
