LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Gretchen Bowie of St. John’s and Paige Parker of Oklahoma were named the final Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division I National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the 2018 season. The duo was selected for their outstanding performance for games played April 30-May 6.
Bowie launched five home runs and drove in 12 lifting St. John’s to a 4-0 week and a berth into the BIG EAST Tournament. The sophomore was 10-for-15 (.667) at the plate with a double, seven runs scored and a 1.733 slugging percentage.
Bowie, a Sparta, N.J. native, cracked two long balls and registered four RBI in a 14-11 win over city rival Fordham. She continued her productivity in game one against league foe Butler, smashing two more homers, doubling and registering five RBI. Bowie’s second of the game was game-tying three-run dinger in the bottom of seventh and she followed that with a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth. The BIG EAST Player of the Week homered and added three more RBI in game two of the twinbill, which clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Parker capped of the regular season with 10.1 innings of shutout ball to help the Sooners sweep Bedlam from Oklahoma State. She twirled a five-inning no-hitter in the opener on May 2, fanning five Cowgirls and walking one in an 8-0 victory.
The Independence, Mo. native tossed 5.1 innings of shutout ball with eight strikeouts and no walks in the series finale. Parker surrendered just two hits in the contest and held Oklahoma State to a .065 batting average in her two starts.
