LOUISVILLE, Ky. — California’s Norco kept rolling as the top team in the USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 poll.
The (29-0) Cougars picked up two more wins to complete another perfect week. They defeated Santiago for the second time this season, 5-3, last Thursday, then topped Centennial, 5-1, on Tuesday.
Norco has now scored 161 more runs than it has allowed — a 201-40 margin — winning 40 of its last 41 contests. The lone loss during that stretch was an 1-0 loss to Mater Dei in their 2016 finale — the CIF Southern Section playoffs. Next up is Roosevelt (11-14), which played the Cougars tough before falling 1-0 on April 25.
The top 10 teams in the rankings remained the same for the third straight week, while No. 11 South Granville (20-0) and No. 12 Westminster Christian (45-2-1) both won twice to leapfrog new No. 13 Oak Park-River Forest (22-1), which suffered its first loss of the season and dropped two positions.
Elsewhere, Donovan Catholic (20-0) had a 4-0 week to surge four spots to 14th, while No. 15 Hendrickson (27-1) and No. 16 Oakleaf (28-2) gained one spot apiece.
Unbeaten Maryland school Leonardtown (19-0) — which has only allowed six runs all season — joined the rankings this week at No. 21.
