HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A Bridgewater family is bringing Space Play Academy, a new space-themed indoor play center, to Hillsborough.
Luis Pazmino, an engineer, said he felt compelled to open the play center at 315 Roycefield Road, Suite 123, in Hillsborough to help entertain his two children Annabella age 10 and Christopher age 2.
“It’s always a struggle to get them off the screen, to get them active, especially during the winter and during the summer, when it’s too hot,” said Pazmino to Patch. “You don’t want to be out there risking them getting dehydrated. You don’t want them getting sick with the cold.”

He added that while outdoor playgrounds are great they are not comfortable.
“Playgrounds, sometimes they’re very dirty. If it rains, it could be slippery, muddy. Restrooms are usually not nearby,” said Pazmino.

He and his wife Andrea Roberto started looking into what other play centers were around and there weren’t many options. He did his research and landed on the space theme.
Being an engineer, Pazmino said the exploration of space really resonated with him.
“I think it’s one of the biggest achievements of mankind. I have always been a fan of it. I am an engineer, and I want the playspace to have a lot of science-feel to it, a lot of technology and engineering to it,” said Pazmino.
At Pazmino’s Space Play Academy, there will be open play but also classes including mommy and me yoga, and games such as the Freeze Game and the Floor is Lava. He will also offer pretend play for kids to pretend they are on a space mission or scavenger hunts.
“I want to contribute to creating that vision in young minds that they could become engineers and contribute to space exploration,” said Pazmino. “It’s just a way to have kids get their physical activity while having fun and learning.”
Additionally, Space Play Academy will offer celebration packages to celebrate any occasion such as birthdays, graduations, sports league victories, etc.
“There’s a lot of events out there that we can cater to. And on top of that, we also want to open up the space for community events and help fundraising, specifically Parent-Teacher organizations, nonprofits, especially nonprofits that work with kids. We want to make partnerships with them,” said Pazmino.
Pazmino is shooting open the play center in February if all goes as planned. However, prior to opening Pazmino is asking locals to fill out a survey to share what things they would like him to include in the playspace. The survey link is: forms.gle/xJnEpNRTQpKBPcTo9.
