New Date Set For Age-Restricted Apartment Complex Hearing In Barnegat

BARNEGAT, NJ — Though many came out to the July 8 Barnegat Township Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting to hear about the proposed 74-unit age-restricted apartment complex, they didn’t get to learn anything about the project.

That’s because some neighbors did not receive proper notice of the hearing, and now it will be heard at the Aug. 12 meeting.

Joseph D. Coronoto, Sr., the attorney representing the complex known as “Residence Club at Barnegat,” explained to the board that he wanted to give a presentation on the apartment even though the planner was unavailable that night.

“I know the public is here and I decided that in light of all the publicity that we would at least get started with the application,” Coronoto said.

There was some concern over not everyone having received notice. Coronoto said this was because there was some extra property that may or may not be used for drainage, and he said it wasn’t an issue at the moment. He said that additional property owners instead could be noticed if the developers decided that basin was needed.

But board Chairman John Murrin responded “I totally disagree.”

“Everybody has to have the opportunity to be here,” Murrin said.

Coronoto suggested this meeting be sort of a “dry run” to answer some questions, but the board disagreed and carried it to the next meeting.

The complex will be located at 30 Erin Way. There would be two buildings at three stories each, according to public notice, and it would be 18,073 square feet. There would be 74 apartment units in total. Also included would be a leasing office, gym and common space. You can find documents on the complex here.
