Findley, Selle, Beasley-Polko, Swanson, Rojas named 2017 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seymour’s (Conn.) Beca Findley, Reese’s (Mich.) Carlee Selle, Leonardtown’s (Md.) Kaitlin Beasley-Polko, St. John’s XXIII’s (Katy, Texas) Lyndie Swanson and Heritage (Laveen, Ariz.) Academy’s  Mikayla Rojas were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week winners for their outstanding play during the week of April 17-23.

East Region
Findley powered Seymour High School to a pair of wins last week. She was 6-for-7 with four extra-base hits, eight RBI and three runs scored. Her two doubles, a triple and home run attributed to a whopping 1.857 slugging percentage. In a 5-3 win over St. Paul Catholic, Findley was 3-for-4 with a double, homer, four RBI and a run scored. Against Sacred Heart, the junior shortstop went 3-for-3 with four more RBI, a double, triple and two runs scored.

North Region
Guiding Reese High School to a 4-1 week, Selle was nearly perfect at the plate, hitting .933 (14-for-15) with three doubles, three triples, three home runs, 16 RBI, 10 runs scored, a .941 on-base percentage and 1.600 slugging percentage. She opened the week with a 5-for-5 effort in game one against Marlette in which she hit for the cycle, homering twice and scoring five times. Selle also knocked in five runs against Whittemore-Prescott and Breckenridge and went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored in game two versus Marlette.

South Region
Beasley-Polko was unhittable last week as she twirled three no-hitters and struck out 45 batters to just four walks in 17 innings on work. She matched a season-high by recording all 18 outs via the strikeout in a 11-0 six-inning win over Great Mills. The senior right hander fanned 16 in her first start of the week in a six-inning triumph over Manchester Valley and also struck out 11 in a five-inning win against Calvert. Additionally, Beasley-Polko helped herself out at the plate by recording seven hits, three RBI and seven runs scored.

South Central Region
Swanson went 2-0, including a no-hitter against St. Pius X, while also going 4-for-7 with a double, home run and four RBI in wins over St. Pius X and Kelly Catholic. The sophomore fanned 18 and walked just one over seven innings as she no hit St. Pius X, her first seven-inning no-hitter of the season. Swanson also went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI against the Panthers. In her first start of the week, she went the distance in a 5-3 win over Kelly Catholic. Swanson allowed three runs, zero earned, on three hits with 11 punchouts and two walks. At the dish, she collected two hits, one of which left the yard, and two RBI.

West Region
Rojas slugged an astronomical 2.363 as she homered four times and recorded seven extra-base hits leading Heritage Academy to three wins. The senior captain hit .909 (10-for-11), knocked in 17 runs and scored 10 more times. She recorded six RBI in wins over Sequoia and American Leadership Academy, while driving in five more versus Tri City Prep. Against Sequoia, she homered twice and scored three times. Rojas triples, homered and registered five RBI in a 13-0 win over Tri City, while closing out the week by going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a round tripper and four runs scored against American Leadership.

The 2016-17 MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of the five regions. During the fall campaign, one player is selected each week.
